📋 Proportionality Report CONNECT

Proportionality reports enable districts to analyze student data for various subgroups. These reports are designed to help staff identify and address potential inequities in several key areas of the educational system.

 These reports rely on accurate data from the Student Information System (SIS) to provide district staff with reliable insights. They are a tool for identifying areas where interventions and targeted support may be needed to foster equitable educational environments for all students.

Academic Success and Access

• AP/Honors Participation and Performance Proportionality Report: Examine equitable access to and success in advanced academic coursework. Analysis of students enrolled in at least one AP or Honors class for a specific school year, comparing their representation and performance with those of the broader student population.   
  • To ensure the report provides reliable insights, it is essential that AP Scores are accurately loaded and that all students designated as AP or Honors are correctly transferred from the Student Information System (SIS) into the database.
• Assessment Test Proportionality Report: Analyzes equity in student achievement performance across specific student subgroups. This helps uncover where performance may be disproportionate, guiding efforts to support all learners.
• Class Grades and Gradebook Grades Proportionality Report: Highlights disproportionate academic outcomes based on completed/posted class grades (by course, subject, or overall). Compare student groups with the overall student population to inform targeted interventions and strategies to foster equitable learning environments.
• Course Enrollment Proportionality Report: Examines equity in course access and participation. This helps uncover where enrollment may be disproportionate, guiding efforts to ensure all students have equitable opportunities.

Attendance And Discipline:

• Absence Proportionality Report and Attendance Rate Proportionality Report: Investigate and understand student attendance patterns and identify disproportionate absence counts or rates.
• Discipline Consequences Proportionality Report and Discipline Proportionality Report: Provide insights into discipline trends and illuminate areas of disproportionate disciplinary action. This essential data can inform targeted interventions and policy adjustments to foster equitable and just school environments.
  • To ensure the reports provide reliable, actionable information, districts must confirm that student discipline selections are accurately and consistently entered into their Student Information System (SIS) and subsequently transferred to the database.

• Activity Proportionality Report: Empowers staff to gain insights into the equitable distribution of student participation in activities.   
  • To ensure the report provides reliable insights, student activity data must be accurately and completely loaded into the database from the Student Information System (SIS).
• GPS Guidance Tracker (Graduation and Post-Secondary): Offers at-a-glance insights into a student's current quarter performance (absences, tardies, referrals, grades, GPA, and assignments). The report encourages student agency, offering sections for personal goal identification and reflective journaling. This tool was developed in collaboration with the WA Gear Up Program.
• Student Assessment Profile: Provides targeted assessment information for an individual student. 
• Student Demographic Information Report: Consolidates key demographic and photograph data for students. 
• Trending Attendance Report: Analyzes attendance over time with multi-dimensional views, segmenting attendance by grade level to show annual trends over 2 years, monthly performance over 3 months, and weekly fluctuations over 5 weeks.

Sample of Proportionality Report:

The report allows users to determine an overall student population by filtering by district, school(s), and/or grade level(s)

We then determine the number of students (from that group) who have a discipline incident resulting in the consequences of expulsion and/or out-of-school suspension.

Next, for the given population, we determine the number of incidents that resulted in expulsion or suspension.

Of that base population, we determine two things:

• What percentage of the overall population is from the subgroup?
• What percentage of students are in the subgroup?
• What percentage of the students is attributed to the subgroup? 

We use these numbers to produce the composition indexes. For example:

Female students comprise 52.42% of the overall population, but only 39% of the examined subpopulation. Therefore, they are significantly under-represented, with a composition index of (39.68%/52.42%) 0.76 Female Students compose 52.42% of the overall population, but only 31.11% of the examined incidents. Therefore, they are significantly under-represented, with a composition index of (31.11%/%2.42%) 0.59

Validation Workbook.

Some reports also allow the user to download the validation workbook. The workbook is imported into an Excel spreadsheet, which contains various tabs representing the details of the student-level data used to calculate the report.
