Homeroom Dashboards - Data Time Perspective on the Student Spotlight - 2020.05.01

Hello and Welcome Everyone,

On the Student Spotlight, there is now a concept "Data Time Perspective".

There is two different methods for you in this document in order to help you understand Data Time Perspective: 

1. High Level - This article will have examples, text guidance and screenshots to help you learn DTP (Data Time Perspective). This is recommended for users without a lot of time, and just wants to learn the basics of DTP. 

2. Detailed Level - Attached in this article will be a 45 minute Vimeo video where I (Austin) will do a deep technical dive at the Student Spotlights. This is recommended for users more curious about deeper explanations, custom dashboard districts, users who have a high level of technical capacity, or for SDS internal staff. We review the following topics:

1. High Level

In the top of the Student Spotlight, you'll notice a new selection called "Data Time Perspective". This new feature allows you to select a year, and all of the following datasets on the Spotlight will be filtered on that year. 

 In the above example, I selected "Data Time Perspective" as "Previous Year" and that filtered all of the screen-views, to surface data from 2018/2019. Previously (both in V1 and HRe) you had to manually change every single widget either by the calendar icon, or the data setting.

Now, with a single selection, you can change all of the widgets without going into the data settings. 

The following three DTP options are: 

- Current Year, This allows you to change all of the widgets to the current year (this is the defualt when you spotlight a student)

-Previous Year, This allows you to change all of the widgets to the previous year. The previous year is always defined as Current School Year - 1, which means, at the time of writing, the Previous year would surface data for 18/19 in the spotlight widgets.

-Prior Year, This allows you to select any Prior or Current Year and the data that is surfaced would be for that school year in the spotlight widgets. You first need to select "Prior Year" and then you'll see another selection once you do "school year"

after you select "Ok" you will see the dashboard refresh and surface the data in the year you selected for all of the spotlight widgets.
