For Students: Completing OSPI's Requirements for High School and Beyond
Our High School and Beyond Bundle contains many valuable features that allow students to investigate careers, take self-assessments to understand their personalities better, and build their resumes to prepare them for the leap after high school.
In this document, we will cover only the activities that are required to be part of your High School and Beyond Plan, per the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. By following this document, you will be guided to complete all the essential portions of the plan.
User note: Each school district has a unique URL for the High School and Beyond application. Where the instructions show an address like “yourdistrict.schooldata.net/cp,” you’ll insert your district’s name in place of the bolded type, such as “seattle.schooldata.net/cp.”
Career
Career Self-Assessments
Students must complete all three Self-Assessments at least once. These Self-Assessments reveal your Preferences, Interests, and Skills. Taking these assessments will gauge your interest in different careers and when finished will generate results based on your personality and preferences. You may take the Self-Assessments multiple times if you want to see how your results change throughout your high school journey.
To start a self-assessment:
- Go to yourdistrict.schooldata.net/cp.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Learn About Myself >> Overview.
[a]
- Click on any empty attempt to begin the assessment.
[b]
Hearting/Favoriting Careers and Career Clusters
As you complete your career research, you can indicate your interest in specific careers by marking your favorite options with the heart icon. You will be required to select at least one Career and one Career Cluster.
To select your favorites:
- Go to yourdistrict.schooldata.net/cp.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Research Careers >> Career Search.
- Click on the heart next to a career to turn it red. This career will now appear in your Portfolio.
[c]
Educational & Career Goals
In the High School and Beyond process, you’ll also set goals for yourself that help you prepare for your future career. These goals might target things you want to achieve during high school or after high school, and could help you improve how well you do in school or how you prepare for your career. Students must enter at least one Educational and one Career Goal during their high school journey.
To set an educational goal:
- Go to yourdistrict.schooldata.net/cp.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Assemble My Portfolio.
[d]
- Choose the Goals tab, then select Educational.
[e]
- Click Add Educational Goal.
[f]
- Fill out all required fields and then click “Add.”
[g]
- If the button says “Validate,” that means you have not filled out all the required fields. When the missing data is added, the button text will be updated to “Add.”
[h]
Now that we have created an Educational Goal, let’s create a Career Goal.
- Click the Goals tab and select Career Goal.
[i]
- Click Add Career Goal.
[j]
- Fill out all required fields and then click “Add.”
[k]
- If the button says “Validate,” that means you have not filled out all the required fields. When the missing data is added, the button text will be updated to “Add.”
[l]
Four Year Plan
The Four Year Plan is where you will start identifying courses to take in high school that will help prepare you for your future career. Here, you will also identify your post-secondary plans and graduation pathway.
To start creating your Four Year Plan:
- Go to yourdistrict.schooldata.net/FYP.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Four Year Plans >> Create New Four-Year Plan.
[m]
- Fill out all required fields:
[n]
- Name of Plan: A Title or Name Plan that you’ll remember and that is different from other plans you might create. For example, you might have one plan labeled “Carter’s Engineering Plan” and another labeled “Carter’s Air Force Plan.”
- Career Cluster: Select one of the Career Cluster options.
- Career Preference #1:[o] Do you want to choose a career from a list, or enter your own description? SELECT means you will see a dropdown of possible careers in the field named Career Preference #2. TEXT means you can type a career into Career Preference #2.
- Career Preference #2: Here you can either SELECT a Career or type one using TEXT Input, depending on your Career Preference #1 selection.
- Four-Year Plan Template: Select the Template you’d like to use to build your plan off of.
- Student Notes: This is an optional field where you can write notes to your educators.
- Educator Notes: Here is where educators can write notes back to you.
- Post Secondary Plan: Select one of the options available for what you’d like to do after high school.
- Graduation Pathway: Select the pathway you’d like to use to graduate.
- Click Save.
Next, we are going to add courses to your Four Year Plan. (IMPORTANT! You will only fill out future years. Your prior year courses will appear automatically. For example, if you are in 9th grade, you will only fill out 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade courses.)
- To add courses, hover over one of the Orange Graduation Requirements to click: Choose Course.
[p]
- To add a course, click on the checkmark to the left of the course.
- Now you will see your added course on your plan.
- Continue steps 1-2 to add the remaining courses to your plan.
Resume
There are two ways to complete the requirement to develop a resume. The Resume Builder guides you through creating a resume step by step. Or if you already have a Resume, you can upload it directly into the system.
- Go to yourdistrict.schooldata.net/cp.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Assemble My Portfolio.
- Go to the Resumes tab and select Build Resume.
- Open each category by clicking on the caret (down arrow) to start filling in your information. Within each section, you’ll see instructions and an “Add Record” button.
- Click “Add Record”
to open a web form. Fill out the form with important information about the experience, recognition, or composition you want to highlight (for example, volunteer hours or work duties).
- Click the "Add" button
in the top right to finish. If you don’t see an “Add” button, but have a “Validate” button
instead, this means not all required fields have been filled in. When the missing data is added, the button text will be updated to “Add.”
- To edit or delete the data, click on the gear icon
to the right of the entry, then make your selection.
Now that you have created your resume, let’s review and download it.
- Go back to the tabs at the top of the screen. Hover over “Resumes” and click “Print Resume.”
[q]
- Hover over one of the resume template options to either Preview, Download as a PDF, or Download as a Word Doc.
[r]
[s]
[t]
- Once you have found the best template and downloaded it as a PDF or a Word doc, you can upload it by clicking on the “Click here to upload a file” link.[u][v][w] (This is also where you’d start if you wanted to upload a resume that you created outside of High School and Beyond.)
[x]
- You’ll be prompted to select your file. After you’ve selected the file, you will see it appear under the “Add Resume Files” section.
[y]
State and Local Graduation Requirements
To be considered for graduation, students must either pass state ELA and Math Requirements or identify a Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR) that indicates how they’re meeting the requirement in a different way. If you believe you may need a PPR, contact your advisor to discuss possible waivers or substitutions.
FAFSA/Scholarship Information
Students will need to read the FAFSA and scholarship background on the Financial Information page and then click on the banner at the bottom to acknowledge that they have received the information.
- Go to yourdistrict.schooldata.net/fyp.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Financial Information.
[aa]
- Read the information presented.
- Click on blue text hyperlinks to read the information on different sites.
- After reading the information, click on the blue banner to check it off.
[ab]
- A pop-up will appear for you to confirm that you have read the information.
- Click the button that says, “Yes, I understand the Financial Aid opportunities available to me.”
[ac]
- Now you will see a checkmark on the blue banner.

[u]is this where they'd start if they wanted to upload their own instead of using the builder?
[v]Yes, that is correct! I wasn't sure how to word that, but you're right
[w]OK, I've added a sentence to that effect so you can see if it works.
