A Spotlight is a way to gain insights into specific data based on system permissions.
QUICK LINKS
ACCESSING A STUDENT SPOTLIGHT (Back to Quick Links)
Each educator has their particular method for finding students. You can access a student spotlight in the following ways.
Search for a Student through Find a Student. On your Dashboards, Home Page, scroll down to Find a Student and click Get Started. Here you can search for students by their data attributes, a selected teacher or class, a selected school, or a selected district student group filter. |
Launch the Student Spotlight through a Chart. Any chart column is “clickable” and will display a list of the students that make up the column. Hover over the picture of the student and click on the looking glass
|
Click on the blue Student Name within any container or Student Group. |
Use the Dashboard Profile Lookup container. |
CONTAINERS
Days Of The Year (Back to Quick Links) |
Schedule (Back to Quick Links)Displays a course schedule for the current school year and other supplemental information. NOTE: The container does not show 'dropped' classes. Courses are offered in a chart by class grading term and period. In addition, each course is displayed in a class ‘block.’ At the top of the block, you’ll see the Term displayed; the period and the days the class meets are also shown, along with the room number the class meets in. If you hover over the room information, you’ll also see the school the room is associated with. This information will help educators locate a student at any given time throughout the school day. The course name is displayed as the course code and the teacher’s name. NOTE: The teacher’s name is blue and is linked to the teacher spotlight in case they need to be reached. Supplemental information includes grades and credits, which you’ll see at the bottom of the block. The Current Gradebook Grade for the class is displayed; notice the 'Cur:' before the grade. If you hover over the grade, you’ll see Midterm Grades for the class if they have been posted. Once the final grade is 'posted,’ the class term grade replaces the current grade book grades and is no longer designated as 'Cur:' Last but not least, in the bottom right of the class block, you’ll see the Credits available for the class. The data for the Gradebook Viewer container comes from Skyward's Gradebooks. These "buckets," grade book grades and course history grades, are two separate data sets we receive from Skyward. Since they are different buckets, please do not expect them to have the same data at all times. NOTE: The class final and midterm grades come from Skyward's posted grades in the student's course history. Teachers must post grades from their Skyward grade book for grades to appear in the course history. However, remember that teachers (counselors and anyone else with access to a student's grade history) are free to change grades after they have been posted. While this doesn’t happen often, it can happen. |

By clicking on the Action Gear option, you can change the Data Settings (School Year, School), Display Options (Periods/Days and Attendance/Absences), and Download as a Report. Please note: if you are viewing attendance details for today, all students are marked as present for all periods. Homeroom stores absence and tardy records, which assumes a student is present unless specifically marked as absent or tardy. Since the data in Homeroom is updated nightly from your SIS, today's absences and tardies will not be reflected until tomorrow. |
Gradebook (Back to Quick Links)The data for the Gradebook View comes from Skyward’s Gradebooks. It lists the student’s assignments and suggested progress grades for each course. Please Note: The grade listed for a course is a suggested calculation based on all the assignments a student has taken to date and should not be considered a final grade. Teachers must post grades in Skyward for grades to appear. Teachers are free to change grades after they have been posted. Do not compare the Gradebook Viewer grades to those listed on the Schedule Spotlight. Gradebook grades and course history grades are separate sets of data from Skyward. Since they are separated, please do not expect them to have the same data. Click on the Action Gear in the right-hand corner for other options Data Settings (School Year), Display Options, Download as a Data Table and Download as Report. Each Assignment has a date, assignment details a score and is color coded. |
Assessment (Back to Quick Links)An assessment test score will be visible if the assessment test is active OR the assessment test has a strand (that is active) that has a score.
