Purpose:
To turn off the process that migrates data from the district SIS to SchoolData applications for a period of time. The dates of the migration hiatus must be in sync w/ the School Year Start Date.
Note: SchoolData applications will still be available, but the student data will stop updating.
SIS data is in flux over the summer as districts work through the process of rolling up the current school year and starting a new one. Data corruption can occur if the data migrating from the SIS is not data from the same year SchoolData is expecting. Therefore, the migration process must be turned off during the SIS rollover process. Because the time span of the SIS rollover varies per year, SchoolData has set a default window for putting the migrations on hiatus from July 1, 2017 through August 1 2017. This date can be updated per district.
SchoolData recommends the migration start date be set for at least one week prior to the scheduled SIS rollover process, and the stop date set for at least one week after the scheduled SIS rollover.
It is necessary to ensure the school year in Homeroom and the School year in the SIS are the same. So the school year end date should be the same date (or set for a day or two prior to the Hiatus Stop Date) to ensure SchoolData applications are rolled up to the new year when the migrations resume. The school year stop date also needs to be after the hiatus start date, remembering that once the school year stop date passes, Homeroom and all School Data applications will default to the next school year. For more information on School Year Start Date read the Year End Rollover article.
A district may decide to update the dates for various reasons:
- The district may want to have the most current data up to the week before the SIS rollover; updating the start date will accommodate this. Note: SchoolData recommends the start date be set at least one week prior to the SIS rollover.
- The district may not want new year data displayed to end users until that data is finalized. For instance, student schedules for the new year can fluctuate greatly over July and August. The district may decide to leave migrations on hiatus until teachers come back to school in August; updating the stop date will accommodate this.
The migrations happen per District; they can't be modified per school.
