Purpose:
To upload text translations for text in SchoolData.net application.
What you'll need:
- Set Translation Text Template.xlsx filled out
- Data to be translated i.e. Assessment Test Label, Learning Standards or SLP Commitments
- Language the data needs to be translated into
- Table Name
- this is the name of the table the information to be translated is stored in. If the information can be seen in the Admin, put in the name of the category where it can be seen i.e. Assessment Tests, Learning Standards, Student Learning Plan Commitments
- Field Name
- this is the name of the field in the table the information to be translated is stored in. If the information can be seen in the Admin, put in the name of the header where it can be seen i.e. Assessment Test Label, Learning Standard, Student Learning Plan Commitment
- Record Id Value
- this is the name of the Id value in the Table of the Field that will be translated. If the information can be seen in the Admin, put in the Id of the row containing the text to be translated
- Text Translation
- this is the actual translation of the English text
- Language Id
- this can be found in the Admin - Classroom Admin >> Report Card >> Text Translation Languages *note: This is NOT the Id from the Languages Element Table
- SchoolData can help populate this template. Send an email to support@schooldata.net requesting help with populating the Translation Text Template and give them the following information:
- To fill out the template yourself, the following information is needed
Directions:
Log into the Admin at http://{YourDistirct}.schooldata.net/admin with your SchoolData.net username and password.
- navigate to the Classroom Admin category >> Report Card >> Set Translation Text (Task)

- the information requested includes:
- table name
-
field name
- record id value
- text translation
- text translation language id
- fill out the web form and submit

Web Form:
The web form is best used for one or two additions, which can also be done in Text Translations (element table).
- type the table name
- type the field name
- type the record id value
- type the text translation
- select the text translation language
- click the 'submit' button
CSV Upload:
The .csv upload is best used for multiple changes or additions.
Directions:
- select 'download CSV template...' It will be named "TemplateForTable-TextTranslations-[current date].csv"
- open the template in Excel. Leave the header row in tact
- for each Text Translation, enter the following information row by row, starting with the second row (*note: the file may say some fields are optional, but they are not):
- Text Translation
- Table Name
- Field Name
- Text Translation Language
- Record Id Value
- save the template as a UTF-16 Unicode text .(txt) file and close the file
- find the file in it's saved location and open with a text editor
- Find and Replace all the ‘tabs’ with a comma (,).
- Save As, changing the .txt file extension to .csv in the 'Save As' field (making sure it is still being saved as UTF-16) and close the file
- steps 4 - 7 are only necessary for some languages, for instance, if the file contains only Spanish translations the file can just be saved as .csv and uploaded. Russian, however, must be saved in this way or the application changes the Cyrillic letters to question marks
- return to Homeroom Admin and select upload csv
- select the template you modified, and optionally give the file a label
- click Upload
